1. air traffic control tower / control tower |n| a tower with an elevated workspace enclosed in glass for the visual observation of aircraft around an airport.
2. apron |n| a place at an airport where planes wait or turn round
   arrivals.
3. taxiway |n| a path on an airport connecting runways with ramps, hangars, terminals and other facilities. They mostly have hard surface such as asphalt or concrete, although smaller airports sometimes use gravel or grass.
   
4. tarmac |n| an area covered with tarmac outside airport buildings.
5. "He stepped off the plane onto the tarmac."
6. runway |n| a long hard surface on which aircraft land and take-off.
7. "The plane was taxiing along the runway."
8. landing strip |n| a long narrow piece of ground where planes land and take off.
9. landside |n| the landside part of an airport is the part before you go through the security checks to get on an aircraft.
10. hangar |n| a large structure at an airport where aircraft can be stored and maintained.
11. flightline |n| the part of an airport around the hangars where aircraft can be parked and serviced.
12. helipad |n| a flat area for helicopters to land on and take off from, often on top of a building.
13. landing pad |n| a place on a building or on the ground where a helicopter can land.
