        Main Temperature's Definitions

  1. temperature |adj| a measure of the warmth or coldness of an object or substance with reference to some standard value. The temperature of two systems is the same when the systems are in thermal equilibrium.
  2. "What temperature is the swimming pool?"
  3. "Temperatures will be in the low twenties."
  4. temperature scale |n| a system of measuring temperature.
  5. "The Celsius Scale."
  6. degree |n| a unit of temperature on a specified scale.
  7. "The ° symbol after a number means degrees: 30° = thirty degrees."
  8. thermometer |n| an instrument for measuring and indicating temperature, typically one consisting of a narrow, hermetically sealed glass tube marked with graduations and having at one end a bulb containing mercury or alcohol that expands and contracts in the tube with heating and cooling.
  9. "Narrow-range mercury thermometers were used to measure sand surface temperature."
  10. "The thermometer recorded a temperature of 30 degrees Celsius."

      Systems of Temperature Measuring
  1. There are two main systems used for measuring temperature: °F = degrees Fahrenheit (only used in United States) and °C = degrees Celsius (used in the rest of the world)
  2. celsius / centigrade |n| of or using a scale of temperature in which water freezes at 0° and boils at 100.
  3. "It will be a mild night, around nine degrees Celsius."
  4. "They always use the Celsius scale on the weather forecast nowadays."
  5. fahrenheit |n| of or relating to a temperature scale proposed by the inventor of the mercury thermometer.
  6. "Above zero."
  7. "Below zero."
  8. "Ten degrees below zero."
  9. "It’s thirty-two degrees Fahrenheit."
  10. "It’s zero degree Celsius."
